Tsavo East and Tsavo West sit either side of the Nairobi–Mombasa road and feel like different countries: Tsavo East is flat, open and red with dust; Tsavo West is volcanic, hillier, and dotted with springs and rocky outcrops. This two-day safari crosses both in a single, coast-based trip, with a lodge night at the changeover point.

How the two days work

Day one is spent game viewing in Tsavo East before crossing into Tsavo West in the afternoon and checking in to your lodge or tented camp. Day two focuses on Tsavo West's different terrain — including, where time and interest allow, an optional guided walk at Mzima Springs, where a viewing window lets you watch hippo and fish underwater.

    A morning game drive with an optional stop at Mzima Springs, then the drive back to the coast, arriving by early evening.
